Melina & Detlef in Philadelphia
March 30 @ 1:53 pm EDT
Melina Sedó & Detlef Engel are amongst the most influential teachers of close-embrace Argentine Tango in Europe and were enthusiastically received in Philadelphia in 2007 and 2008. 10 years later they are back for one single stay, having elaborated their teaching methods, published a comprehensive book + DVD and developed a tango-teacher-training that is followed by dancers from all over Europe and the USA.
This will be Melina & Detlef’s last visit to the US for quite a while, so do not miss this opportunity to improve the quality of your dance!

Workshop-Content:
The Elegance of the Caminar (Friday, 7-9pm)
Elegance does not come from what you do, but how you do it. In this class, we will examine how relaxation and a harmonic exchange of information in the couple make our movements more fluid and therefore elegant. We will introduce our most important concepts of communication for walking in the parallel and crossed system and harmonise our movements with stately, slow tangos.
This workshop for dancers of all levels will help you clean up your technique and develop a natural elegance without having to use lots of tension. This class is highly recommended to anyone who will participate in another workshop with us. For those who already know us, it will be the perfect refresher and an opportunity to tune-in with your body and partner.
Asynchronous Moves (Saturday, 1-6pm)
We‘ll explore movements in which leader and follower walk in different speeds or express different aspects of the music. These will be simple variations of the “caminar” as well as more complex or turned steps. A challenging and fun class for dancers with a solid foundation.
We recommend our workshop on Friday as a preparation.
Note: if you have visited our 1,5h class in NYC 2017 with the same title, this workshop will still be very interesting for you. In this more intensive seminar, we will apply the idea to new variations and sync our moves with two interesting tangos that ask for different forms of asynchronicity.
Behold Biagi! (Sunday, 1-6pm)
Exploring Biagi‘s eccentric variations of rhythm and phrasing. Biagi‘s tangos are a challenge for all dancers. We will present his work in its different phases and analyse a couple of his most important tangos in-depth.
Pre-requisite for this workshop is the knowledge of rhythmic variation and ability to change speed and step-length without effort.
An exciting class for intermediate and advanced dancers.
